The 2025 International Day of Mathematics

This was the sixth celebration of the IDM since UNESCO proclaimed it in 2019.

The theme for 2025: Mathematics, Art, and Creativity

Every year we announce a theme to flavor the celebration, spark creativity and bring light to connections between mathematics and all sorts of fields, concepts and ideas.

The 2025 IDM theme celebrates the creativity found in mathematical discovery and art. Using mathematics in art opens doors to new ideas, beautiful and captivating creations.

We invite everyone to celebrate mathematics, art, and creativity, showcasing the harmony of logic and imagination, where numbers dance with colors, equations sculpt beauty, and ideas transcend boundaries to inspire and innovate. Creativity unites mathematics and art, fields that may seem separate, but were originally intertwined, both seeking to reveal the beauty of the universe.

These are the official translations of the theme to different languages:

English (US) Mathematics, Art, and Creativity
Arabic الرياضيات، الفن، و الإبداع
Chinese (Simplified) 数学、艺术与创意
Chinese (Traditional) 數學、藝術與創意
French Mathématiques, Art, et Créativité
German Mathematik, Kunst und Kreativität
Korean 수학, 예술 그리고 창의
Portuguese Matemática, Arte, e Criatividade
Spanish Matemáticas, Arte y Creatividad

The Math You Can Touch 2025 Creative Challenge

To celebrate the 2025 IDM we invited you to participate in our Math You Can Touch Challenge by using your artistry and creativity to construct mathematical sculptures from everyday physical objects.

We created a gallery of some of the most creative and inspiring sculptures, and an interactive map to explore and discover creations from all over the world.

The 2025 Webinar

Relive the "Mathematics, Art, and Creativity" webinar organized by UNESCO, IDM, and IMU on March 14.

The webinar delved into the dynamic intersection between mathematics, artistic expression, and educational innovation, highlighting how mathematical concepts ignite creativity across various disciplines.

Mathematics has long been a source of inspiration for artists, influencing everything from geometric patterns in classical architecture to fractal designs in digital art. Similarly, in education, mathematical thinking fosters problem-solving, critical reasoning, and creative exploration, shaping the way students engage with the world around them.

By bridging these disciplines, the webinar explored how mathematical concepts inspire both artistic innovation and transformative educational practices. Experts, practitioners and artists shared insights into the ways mathematics can enhance creativity, making it a powerful tool for both artistic creation and engaging, forward-thinking education.
